State of the Map 2010 Travel Scholarship

The OpenStreetMap Foundation is excited to announce that, like last year, the full travel and accomodations costs for 15 mappers to attend State of the Map 2010,  will be provided.

We are looking for people from places where costs would prohibit attendance, especially developing countries and places that are “interesting” geopolitically. The scholarships will provide an opportunity for these leaders of nascent OSM communities to network, learn, and find the inspirations and support to take OSM to the next level.

The travel scholarship covers:

  • Round trip air travel to Girona
  • Accomodation in Girona from July 8-12. You’re welcome to extend your stay in Girona,  but it will be at your own cost.
  • Visas. We can provide letters of invitation, if required for you to secure a Spanish visa.

We may be able to help with any visa costs, but we need to discuss these directly.

All you have to do in return is enthusiastically participate at SOTM 2010!

SOTM 2010 provides you an opportunity for building skills, connections, and excitement. And we want you to take it back home with you to share your communities, of old and new mappers alike. At SOTM 2010, everyone is highly encouraged (let’s say required, unless you have a very good reason) to make at least a brief presentation about mapping in your home country; from experience, pictures of places, people, and of course maps tell a great story. Longer presentations are most welcome too. Afterwards, the second requirement would be, to make some blog posts on your experience.

The deadline for your application is May 9th 11:59 PM GMT.

You can send your questions and applications to the following email address: sotm.scholarship@gmail.com

For each nomination, include the mappers name, OSM user name, email address, location, and a paragraph or two on why it would be great to be at SOTM 2010.

If you have been selected, you will receive an invitation by the 14th of May.

Many thanks go to the Open Society Institute for helping to make this happen.

Hope to see you all at the SOTM 2010 !!!

Kind Regards,

Bojan & the State of the Map 2010 organizers
